Metro do Porto ponders free Wi-Fi Internet supply – SAPO Tek

The technical tests to assess the feasibility of installing a wireless Internet access network in Metro do Porto are already underway, although the service has not yet time to be released, admitted Live Money official company source. The use of the infrastructure would be free.

It is the same with the network installed in city buses, the STCP. Since the free Wi-Fi network was installed in the fleet in 2014, 405,000 people used the service to surf the internet for 1.3 million hours in over 4.4 million sessions.

the network operates in 404 of the 419 bus fleet of STCP and, in Porto, comes partially the municipalities of Matosinhos and Vila Nova de Gaia.

the tendency to create access points for wireless internet extends to other businesses and own telecommunications operators, which have been growing the network and make it available for free to customers outside the home and so paid to other users.

Mad Money also found that last year the US added 200,000 hotspots to its network, which now has 900,000 access points. In MEO equivalent network consists of 1.100 hotspots Meo Wi-Fi Premium and 400,000 MeoSpots.
