Light Rider – Launched the first printed mota 3D – Pplware

The 3D printing has opened the door to new and exciting possibilities. With new materials to emerge as an alternative to printing, there is a whole new palette of ideas that can be exploited.

Recently, APWorks presented the Light Rider, the first motorcycle created from 3D printing. If it is a spectacular product, its price is not you back!

Light Rider is the latest creation of APWorks, a company of Airbus dedicated 3D printing projects in new materials and new techniques.

Using the metal printing managed to create a framework with a reduced weight of only 6 kg, and which houses all components of this electric bike. With other equipment, the weight is still low and will only to 35kg.

In the 3D print of this picture, the APWorks used techniques that only the company dominates and a material developed. This aluminum alloy, called Scalmalloy, which has the strength of titanium, is used to create complex structures with thin layers joined together.

But the specifications of Light Rider does not stand by its weight. The electric motor that the team allows you a maximum speed of 80km / h and a range of 60km. It can accelerate from 0 to 45km / h in only 3 seconds.

Although it is only a proof of concept, the APWorks created the Light Rider to the market, and its consistent price to your specifications and uniqueness. The price of each of the 50 manufactured bikes is 50,000 euros.

The ability to create complex structures and a lot of times impossible to create through machining is one of the gains of this type printing and that is evident in the Light Rider.

the future of 3D printing is open and increasingly will emerge real applications not only in plastics, but also in metal and even food.
