In the second quarter of the year 41% of sales made by big retail chains were products on sale. According to the sales barometer of the Portuguese Association of Distribution Companies (aped), released on Wednesday, last year in the same period the percentage of sales on sale was 36%. These data refer only to food and consumer.
The volume of sales in the food sector, ie in hyper and supermarkets, increased by 2% between April and June 2470 million euros and the average price increased 0.9%. At the same time, the Portuguese have moved fewer stores (-4%).
However, there was such a marked evolution in non-food products, whose sales fell 0.6% , largely due to the fall in the volume of fuel sales -. 2.3% to 861 million euros
Adding the food and non-food retail sales, the retail industry had a turnover of 4,241 million euros in the period, plus 1% from last year.
