Lisbon won the bid to organize the 2016 edition of Web Summit, one of the most important technology conferences and entrepreneurship in Europe. The announcement was made on Wednesday by the Government at a ceremony with the deputy prime minister, Paulo Portas, and the founder of the event, the Irish Paddy Cosgrave.
The Portuguese capital played in the organization with cities such as Paris and Amsterdam. Among the factors examined to determine the location of an issue are the accommodation capacity and connecting the city to the entrepreneurship ecosystem.
Thousands of conference attendees will have a significant weight in the tourism sector of Lisbon. Last year, the conference brought together 22,000 people in the Irish capital. By comparison, in July, the hotel sector of the Lisbon metropolitan area recorded an average of 42,000 daily overnight stays, according to the latest data from the National Statistics Institute.
In the 2015 edition are expected 4500 startup , 12 of which are Portuguese, and 30,000 participants.
The Web Summit is held since 2010 in the Irish capital and became a large event on the world circuit Conference technology.
The event also includes a contest startup . In 2014, the Codacy, a company created in Portugal was one of the winners. It develops and markets a service that automatically analyzes computer code for flaws.
The announcement that Lisbon was to compete with other cities the conference of the organization had been made by the Government at the end of August.
