NASA tests tomorrow “flying saucer” – Daily News – Lisbon

The US space agency (NASA) plans to try on Thursday the biggest parachute ever used during the launch of a flying saucer that will test new technologies to land on Mars. The test was scheduled for today but was postponed due to bad weather conditions.

The test flight of the space capsule, known as “Low-Density Supersonic Decelerator, will be transmitted in direct the” site “of NASA tomorrow afternoon.

As the atmosphere on Mars is very thin, any parachute that support weight and rapid movement downhill has to be stronger.

The space agency has figured out how to do this for decades, beginning with the mission ‘Viking’, who put two probes on Mars in 1976.

But with the intention to send humans to Mars in 2030, the agency is now testing a new generation, more Advanced, parachute technology, known as parachute “Ringsail Supersonic”.
