Microsoft Portugal creates another 60 jobs by 2015 – TVI24

The general director of Microsoft Portugal, João Couto revealed on Monday that the technology will expand its support center for cloud computing, which will create 60 direct jobs in the country by next year .

“Currently we have about 140 [ of jobs created] and we will expand to 200 over the next year, “explained the director general of the technology.

The expansion of the center to support cloud computing and scheduling services aims to serve business customers in Europe, Middle East and Africa. These jobs will be qualified in engineering or equivalent.

John Couto assured that there is no financial support from the State, nor the tax level under this Memorandum of Understanding. “On the side of the Government’s commitment to supporting the development of cloud technology and ensuring that the legal and regulatory context ‘allows’ projects have an accelerated development,” explained the manager.

The decision Microsoft Portugal in investing in Portugal based on the “quality of human resources and the existence of a good competitive environment, with the binomial cost / quality,” added John Couto.

Asked about the duration of the MoU , the general director of Microsoft Portugal said this will have an initial duration of 12 months and a ‘Working Group’ will be set up to monitor projects.

Another point of the memo is to evaluate the possibility of leveraging these investments, with a view to creating of an international support center for other Portuguese-speaking countries, the company said.

Among the various points of the memorandum of understanding is the ability to “create applications, located in key universities and factories under existing partnerships, such as the laboratory of digital games IPCA, designed to help the new generation to learn how to develop applications and games for Windows and Windows Phones aimed at the global market.

The establishment of centers skills for cloud computing in key universities that teach and train the next generation to develop applications and services in this area using the Microsoft Azure is another betting Microsoft.
