One of the first Apple-branded computers sold in New York on Wednesday for 712 930 euros, making it the most expensive relic of the computer world, according to the London-based auction house Bonhams.
The Apple-1 computer, hand-built by Steve Wozniak in 1976 in the house of Apple co-founder, Steve Jobs, was bought by the Henry Ford Museum, reaching almost twice the estimated pre-sale value, Bonhams announced.
“We’re thrilled to knock the world record in selling and even more amazed that go to a wonderful new home as the Henry Ford Museum,” said Cassandra Hatton, specialist in charge of the sale, adding the computer is in excellent condition.
The computer is composed of a ‘motherboard’ intact ‘vintage’ keyboard, monitor Sanyo, a source of power in a custom wooden box and two cassette players’ vintage ‘.
The Apple-1 was considered the vanguard of the revolution of personal computers, the first ever sold pre-assembled.
The Bonhams said the computer was sold at auction one of 50 handmade in summer 1976 by Steve Wozniak.
