The Portuguese Association for the Study of Pain and the Grünenthal Foundation just distinguish the journalists Paula Anabela Silva and Rebelo, the quality and interest of the work done for the sake of spreading the pain.
Paula Rebelo, RTP, won the award in the category of TV with a story focusing on the impact of chronic pain in the Portuguese population and the consequences of non treatment. Already journalist Antena 1, Anabela Silva, won in the category of the radio report about the pain they feel the health professionals who treat us.
A ceremony to present the awards will take place on 17 October, at 17:00 in the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto, under the celebrations of the National Day of Action Against Pain.
The jury was composed by Miguel Vieira and Paulo Camacho nominated by the Portuguese Association for the Study of Pain, John Amoedo by Grünenthal Foundation and Ana Goulart and Rosaria Rat by the Journalists Union. For the assessment of the work to contest the criteria of consistency with the objectives of the award, creativity, research, relevance and quality were taken into account.
Chronic pain is a persistent pain situation which, if not is adequately treated, can seriously affect the quality of life and lead to the inability to work. In Portugal, chronic pain affects more than 30% of the adult population.
The Portuguese Association for the Study of Pain aims to promote the study, teaching and dissemination of the pathophysiological mechanisms, means of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of pain according to the parameters established by the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP).
