NASA released new images of Pluto largest moon, which are the marvel community to reveal marks of a great geologic activity. The photographs show that Charon is covered with mountains, gorges and colorful parties.
The images taken by the New Horizons probe revealed that the satellite has a huge canyon system that extends for 1,600 kilometers. According to scientists, this is four times as long and twice deeper than the Grand Canyon.
The researchers claim that this type of geological formation could only have happened in a world with a very active geological activity, something that scientists were not expecting.“It seems that the entire crust of Charon was split open,” said John Spencer, the scientist responsible for the mission.
“We thought that the probability of seeing so many interesting features in this satellite was low. But I could not be more delighted with what we find there,” said he said Ross Beyer, NASA investigator.
