The National Association of Road Carriers for Passenger Cars (ANTRAL) asked for an injunction against the Uber and the Court of Lisbon accepted it on 28 April. The decision was said that telecommunications operators should block access to the site and the application of the Portuguese subsidiary of Uber, but it is only now that they feel the first practical effects.
The US was the first operator to proceed with the block, but for now only effective in the online page. An official review, the company states that “scrupulously complied with the court’s instructions to block the Uber site.”
PT Portugal, owner of Meo by official source also confirmed to TeK that “received the court order sent to operators and to fulfill”.
On the side of Vodafone Portugal’s confirmation of “compliance with the court’s instructions to block the Uber site.”
The TeK also contacted Cabovisão that by the time of publication of the article had not yet responded.
In response to the entry into force of the lock operators Uber stresses that “therefore [after the court decision of April 28], it is possible that the Uber website is not available on some networks” but it will not affect the availability of the service in Lisbon and Porto.
“The Uber regrets the inconvenience and expects a court ruling as soon as possible in order to serve its partners and users in Portugal in the best way,” reads the response sent.
It is recalled that the Uber already presented its defense against the injunction ordered by the Court of Lisbon and ensures that it will continue to operate the services in Portugal. However the “fight” against ANTRAL promises to stretch as the association’s president, Florencio de Almeida, confirmed that the goal goes through the process responsible Uber Portugal.
