WhatsApp reaches 600 million users – BIT Magazine, Computer for all.

A twwet Jan Koum , co-founder of WhatsApp, released the news that the application messaging crossed the 600 million active users, ie, using the app at least once a month.

WhatsApp

When, in February this year, Facebook bought WhatsApp, Mark Zuckerberg said that the application would reach one billion users faster than their social network. At the time of purchase, a business of 16 billion dollars, WhatsApp had about 450 thousand active users.

The beads are easy to make and if we consider that the number 500 million was announced in April quickly concluded that the growth is being marked. By the numbers that are known, the WeChat is the closest competitor WhatsApp with 438 million active users. Come farther Line (235 million), Viber (100 million) and Tango (70 million).

It should be noted, however, that revealed the Line number is referring to registered users and not explicit how these are active. Koum not forgotten this detail in your tweet, noting: “yes., Assets and recorded are very different kinds of numbers …”

It is by now realize if in future revenues WhatsApp will continue to be generated as currently there is a charge of one dollar per year after the free use in the first year or if, against what Koum has argued, there will be the introduction of games or advertising service.

The WhatsApp application was created in 2009 by Brian Acton and Jan Koum and is available for all popular operating systems used these days.
