Researchers develop robots that move because … – Globo.com

Researchers at Harvard University in the United States, presented the results of a study on robots that aroused much curiosity.

Here there is no room for jealousy or inflated egos. Kilobot is slightly larger than a coin and has a thousand brothers, all identical robot:. Created an army in the laboratories of Harvard University

The genius lies in what they can do together. The researcher marks the starting point. And, on their own, the kilobots start walking until reaching a goal. Can be reach across the table, dodging obstacles. Or form a swarm, which turns figures, like a star. Or a letter of the alphabet.

Each little robot has a microprocessor, two motors and sensors to communicate with others. They were programmed to calculate the distance to the starting point and the neighbors, and to follow the movement of the group. . Thus manage to fix themselves, correcting errors, one helping the other to fulfill all the mission

The inspiration for the largest swarm of robots ever created came from nature: bees and ants cooperate. The timing of the clouds of birds and shoals form striking images. Immortalized with exaggeration in animation films.

But that will serve the research? Scientists say that a group of robots that are able to organize themselves in the future can help clean the river or the sea, when there is an oil spill, for example. With an army of these, would be easier to monitor borders and even explore other planets.
