Nurses make 15 kms walk to home care – TVI24

Nurses care unit in the community of Vila Verde Health Centre will now do about 15 kilometers on foot to home care to users in a protest against the lack of drivers and operational workers.

According to Guadalupe Simões, of the Portuguese Nurses’ Union (SEP), will be made today only two of about 10 planned homes, “because time does not give for more.”

“The first home is over seven kilometers,” said the trade unionist Lusa.

The protest today, called by the SEP, has the motto “Put on your shoes,” that it’s an invitation to people to “feel the feet and the skin which nurses spend to make households”.

In a statement, the SEP states that those nurses “have to face, for some time, incomprehensibly, with the removal of the conditions necessary for the realization of nursing appointments.”

“Nurses, aware of the imperative need of nursing care to these patients, they decided to do it on foot as much as humanly possible,” he added.

In late May, the director of the Health Centers Grouping (ACES) Geres / Cabreira, it belongs to that health center, lamented that some nurses’ wish to require the State to ensure their drivers to carry out their normal functions. ”

“At a time when the human and material resources are not unlimited, and that Portugal, as indeed many countries are hit by severe economic and financial crisis, very sorry that some nurses want to require that the state guarantees them drivers to perform their normal functions, “stated Jorge Cruz, in a statement sent to Lusa agency.

Jorge Cruz reacted thus to termination of the deputies PS elected by the circle of Braga, whereby care unit in the community (UCC) of Vila Verde Health Centre “abruptly” will reduce the number of households, “from 58 weekly visits to only 25″.

According to the socialists, that reduction is due to “the lack of human resources, especially of operational workers, who performed the task drivers” of nurses.

In response sent to Lusa, Jorge Cruz remembered those UCC constitute the initiative and voluntary participation of professionals that make up the respective teams and emphasizes that “under no circumstances” required to nurses running alone households, “because that matter is internal and the responsibility of working teams. ”

“Despite this, whenever this is possible, because there is plenty of resources has been guaranteed the monitoring of an operational assistant, qualified for driving, particularly in functional units with a number reduced from nurses or they do not hold such a qualification, “he added.

However, the Northern Regional Health Authority (ARSN) ensured that the nurses who today were to walk home users, in Vila Verde, have done “willingly”, stressing that it will be a “union advertising action”.

“The nurses included in the team in question moved on foot to households willingly, since the health centers Grouping (ACES) has provided them a vehicle for this purpose” , refers to ARSN in a statement.

In the statement, ARSN adds that has been determined to constitute the respective survey in order to ascertain whether the provision of health care was put into question.

It also says the only challenge is taking place in Vila Verde.

“The ARSN notes and thank compliance in full the commitments made by other support teams in the community, particularly with regard to the collaboration of nursing professionals” still reads the statement.

For ARSN, and “according to information provided by the Portuguese Nurses Union,” the protest today “will treat-action union propaganda. ”
