The European Night of the Researchers takes place since 2005 in several european countries and Israel. The idea is that there is interaction between the scientific community and the public

This Friday night, the European Night of Researchers will be held in 18 localities from the north to the south of the Country, with a program filled with entertainment, conversations with scientists, and challenges.

With the collaboration of hundreds of researchers, the activities will show “what is to be a scientist and how science works”. According to the news release from the organization, will be addressed several topics, among which health, healthy aging, cognitive improvement, climate change and pollution, food safety, and nanotechnology.

At the Planetarium of Porto, for example, there are informal discussions with researchers who explain their passion for science, a workshop about light pollution, a display of meteorites, among other activities. Already in Lisbon, the Pavilion of Knowledge will be open until 02.00 with musical performances, several workshops, guest lectures of researchers, games, astronomical observations.

Further south, in Tavira, stand-out sessions of astronomical observation, a workshop to the families of the construction of rockets, and garbage collection microplásticos in Taiwan. In the Expolab – Live Science Centre Of São Miguel – Azores, is expected to a moment of “Exchange of Knowledge”, with the neuropsicólogo John Ribeira, which will share its experience and knowledge in the subject of the brain, healthy ageing and cognitive improvement.

The “European Researchs’ Night” is an initiative that began in 2005, funded by the European Commission, to break down the barriers that separate science from the citizens. All events take place at the same time, in 250 cities scattered throughout Europe and neighbouring countries.
