500 million users accounts of Yahoo were hacked – the Daily News – Lisbon

Attack was “supported by a State”, declares the company

Yahoo announced today that 500 million accounts of its users were hacked at the end of 2014, which may affect the ongoing negotiations for the sale of your main business.

According to the Yahoo, the hacker was “supported by a State” and managed to obtain personal information, such as phone numbers, ‘e-mail’, birth dates and passwords of over 500 million users.

The failure of security have implications in the contract of purchase of Yahoo by telecommunications giant Verizon, in the amount of 4,800 million dollars (around 4,200 million euros) and is awaiting approval from regulators.

“Yahoo is working together with the security agencies. Hacking supported by states has become increasingly common in the technology industry,” adds the company, with headquarters in Santa Clara, California, in a statement today released.

In the summer, the company indicated that it was investigating a hacker called “Peace”, which ensured to have the private data of the 200 million used services of Yahoo.

“Peace sells personal data, email accounts and contrassenhas in the so-called “dark web” (the internet illegal), with anonymous access and that supports the activity of the hackers, for a total price of 3 ‘bitcoins’, the equivalent of $ 1,800 (around 1,600 euros).
