More than 500 million e-mail accounts of Yahoo stolen – Observer

At the beginning of last August, circulated the news that the data of millions of e-mail accounts, Yahoo would be on sale on "dark web" (the area of the internet outside of search engines). Now, the company just confirmed this failure of massive security, advances the Bloomberg.

a Source close to the process says that the extent of the security breach may be larger than initially expected, in the case of the names, dates of birth, email addresses and their passwords. The investigation began after a hacker ("hacker") known for Peace, have been caught selling access to these e-mail accounts (for only $ 1,800).

At the time Yahoo did not deny the occurrence of the leakage of information, but also has not adopted the usual procedure in these cases, which is to recommend or force the creation of a new password.

The company just take the failure and the consequences go beyond identity theft or access to email accounts.

On Thursday Yahoo said in statements that during the investigation it was possible to notice that have not been stolen none of the data relating to bank accounts or payment information. Affected users are being notified and the accounts are receiving the proper maintenance so that they are, again, safe.

This situation is particularly delicate because it is in the process of purchase of Yahoo by the to a (giant) american Verizon, a business of 4.8 billion dollars that may come to suffer a setback, as the readjustment of the value of the purchase. However, and despite the news be known a few hours ago, the stock of Yahoo at Nasdaq is to react positively (18.45h, Lisbon time).
