WhatsApp implement stronger encryption system on the market – Daily News – Lisbon

The last update of the WhatsApp application for Android has a encryption so strong system or WhatsApp itself can decrypt messages of its users, even under police summons . This is the first that such a significant application implements a system with this force.

The software is designed to WhatsApp in partnership with the Open Whisper Systems, a nonprofit company that makes program open source oriented privacy issues.

This is a system end-to-end , which means that messages are encrypted with users, with decryption keys created by the company to the users, but only accessible on these devices. Thus, neither the company itself can read the messages.

According to what Moxie Marlinspike, CTO of Open Whisper, told Wired, the system is “completely frictionless,” and “normal users will not even notice the difference.”

For now , however, the encryption applies only to Android devices, and still not cover the group messages, the photos or video messages, but Marlinspike says “soon” the software will be extended to Apple iOS and full functionality.
