Photography Exhibition opens Center of Mar de Viana

An exhibition of over 100 photographs of 80 species found in deep sea, near Viana do Castelo, will mark tomorrow, the opening of the Center on Mar hospital ship Gil Eannes.
 “These are images taken by divers that will amaze visitors the diversity of species that can be found on the seabed in the coastal area of ​​Viana. It proves the rich biodiversity of our coast, “said Leonor Cruz, Center of Environmental Monitoring and Interpretation (CMIA).
 The historical relationship of the city with the sea, especially the activity of the Naval Shipyards in Viana do Castelo (ENVC) and the potential created in recreational boating, with the recent opening of four sports facilities are second Leonor Cruz, two other components the exhibition ‘An ocean of opportunity’, which will remain on the boat for about a year.
 The inauguration of the Centro de Mar will happen at the National Maritime Day, the date that the Municipality of Viana do Castelo will also put a Sea Week which runs until June 22.
 The creation of the new space represents an investment of 550,000 euros financed by the Regional Operational Programme of North (ON2) 2007-2013 under the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF).

 A gathering with the theme ‘Art of Fishing in Viana’ and a workshop on the use of algae in cooking are also other points of the program.
 Tomorrow, the inauguration of the Centre de Mar will also be marked by honor Ernani Lopes, project mentor. The City of Castle Vianda will assign the name of the former finance minister, now deceased, an exhibition hall and an auditorium, created aboard the ship fruit on retrofitting existing spaces on the ship 59 years ago.

 The project of the Center for Ocean, who was born in 2008 within the extinct Valimar association of municipalities of Lima Valley and moved into Intermunicipal Community (MIC) of the Alto Minho, was initially designed by Ernani Lopes, while the founder of Saer – Society of Business Valuation and Risk.
 The transformation of the ship Sea Center with the collaboration of former workers ENVC, where the vessel was built in 1955.
 The new space will be provided, among other facilities, multimedia equipment, areas to support entrepreneurship and economy boating and numerous interactive audiovisual experiences.
 The ship was also equipped with a museum and interpretive course on maritime culture of Viana do Castelo and a Maritime Documentation Center.
