GNR seizes 1840 pounds of hashish in Castro Marim

Faro – The Coastal Control Unit GNR seized early on Wednesday in Castro Marim in the Algarve, 1840 kilos of hashish in an operation performed on the Guadiana river near Castro Marim.

The GNR seized 1840 kilograms of hashish and a vessel of 7.70 meters in length, an operation performed on the Guadiana river, near Castro Marim. The two crew members, of Spanish nationality, 36 and 40, still tried to flee but were eventually caught by the Portuguese authorities.

According to a statement from GNR, the operation resulted from a Spanish given by the Guardia Civil Alert who was aware of the movement of a suspect vessel, coming from sea and was being monitored by the coastal surveillance system that force, at the entrance of the Guadiana river.

Inside the boat were packed 58 bales hashish, a total of 1840 kg and an estimated 60 000 euros. According to the GNR, this operation prevented the entry of 3.68 million doses of hashish in Europe.

The GNR also stresses that the operation was only possible due to the close collaboration with the Spanish Guardia Civil and surveillance systems coastal and communications
