This year the price of roaming calls will be reduced about 77%, from the current five cents per minute to 1.14 cents per minute, according to the rules defined by the European Commission.
According to the statement of the National Communications Authority, ANACOM, the price of calls made while roaming will become the price in the consumer’s country of origin plus a surcharge of five cents. The same applies to data traffic, to which will be added five cents per megabite. In the case of SMS – text messaging – the price will also be applied in the domestic market plus a two-cent rate.
The new rules will enter into force on 30 April 2016 and remain until June 15, 2017, according to ANACOM. Starting next year, will not be charged any additional fee to a client that is in any country in Europe. The flames roaming, sending SMS or using the data service will only cost the domestic retail price.
ANACOM also warns that the Regulation allows operators to apply a “fair use policy”. In cases where abuses are checked may be charged a “small fee” that “can not exceed the ceiling for wholesale charges that operators pay for the use of the networks of other EU countries.”
The limits of what is considered reasonable shall be set at December 15, 2016.
