Psychotic symptoms certain scientifically first – TVI24

A study determines scientifically first symptoms of the three most frequent types of psychoses: schizophrenia, schizophrenic disorder, and delusional disorder.

The work, conducted by Cibersam research group directed by Professor of the University of Granada and the Mental Health Unit of the Hospital San Cecilio of Granada, Jorge Cervilla Ballesteros, will help personalize diagnosis and treatment of patients and may have important implications in the social benefits given to these patients today, according to the academic institution.

The pioneering study corroborated empirically that from the point of view of their mental symptoms, three types of psychosis are significantly different, something that until now was only confirmed by theoretical definitions unproven scientifically.

Psychosis refers to a mental state described as a cissão or loss of contact with reality. People suffering from psychosis may experience hallucinations or delusions and have changes in their personality and disorganized thinking.

These symptoms may be accompanied by unusual or bizarre behavior, as well as the difficulty in acting socially and inability to carry out activities of daily living.

According to Professor Jorge Cervilla Ballesteros, the “psychoses are the most serious mental disorders that manifest with symptoms in which the patient suffers distortion in your perception or understanding of reality.”

In his view, this research is “a giant step” in the diagnosis of psychosis by its implications for social benefits they receive patients.

The study also provides the keys to reset the subtypes of said psychoses that, according to the authors, “should be profiled according to the intensity found in the different dimensions of symptoms (manic, negative, depressive, positive and cognitive). ”
