Daily number of new malware samples detected fell in 2015 – PCGuia

According to Kaspersky Lab, 2015 was marked by the saturation in the search for malicious programs, which led to a reduction of 15,000 in the daily number of new malware samples detected, moving from 325,000 in 2014 to 310,000 this year.

The experts at Kaspersky Lab believe that this happened mainly due to the high cost in developing new malicious code. Cybercriminals realized that the more sophisticated attacks, such as rootkits, bootkits or viruses that self-replicate are effective but increase costs, reducing revenues and profit margins.

In addition, these programs sophisticated malicious are not immune to anti-malware software, which are constantly evolving and are used to identify and block more complex code.

In this context, harmless adware (invasive advertising) gained prominence among the detections 2015. This change indicates an evolution in the tactics of cybercriminals that can pass to act almost as a company, selling software, services and other commercial items as if they were legitimate.

Another trend is the wider use of certificates digital by cybercriminals. With the help of certificates, purchased or stolen, attackers try to trick security software, which tends to rely on files with digital signatures. These certificates are sold in the tens of dollars.
