More than 300 people with electronic bracelet for domestic violence – Express

More than 300 attackers today use electronic bracelet due to domestic violence cases, indicate provisional data of Welfare Head Office and Prison Service (DGRSP).

In this day they complete four years of use of the bracelet under the domestic violence, 319 defendants are in electronic surveillance, 23 more than those recorded on 31 December last year.

In 2014, the penalty or electronic surveillance measure was applied to 313 offenders, of which 235 were considered finalized during this period.

Last year, 229 offenders used the electronic bracelet, with 141 cases to be declared ended this period.

The DGRSP pointed out that, from 2009 to 2014, the success rate of the implementation of electronic surveillance, to prevent contact with the victim of domestic violence, is 96.64 percent , register containing all the cases are withdrawn by default.

From 2011 until January this year, the application of this measure to prevent contact of the aggressors with the victims presents higher values ​​between 91.43 % in 2011 and 99.29% in 2013.

According to members of the Portuguese Association for Victim Support (APAV), 30 women and 10 men died in the context of domestic violence .

The “APAV Statistics Sexual Crimes 2000-2012″ report that during this period were totaled 5,710 cases of domestic violence, this number corresponding to the crime of “domestic violence – rape and sexual abuse of children “, with 3,473 cases (53.7%).

Women are the main victims, reaching a peak in 2003, with 548 victims. In 17% of cases, the victim was between 26 and 35 years, and in 14.7% of cases, between 18 and 25 years.
