PSP detained man trying to steal … part of the statue of … – Daily News – Lisbon

The PSP arrested a man for theft of one of the copper railings that protect the statue of the Marquis of Pombal, in the city center, announced Saturday the Lisbon Metropolitan Command PSP.

On Friday -Thurs, by 13:00, PSP officers arrested “a man, 44 years old, by doing good cultural theft crime with historical value.” The man was arrested in flagrante delicto, the Marques de Pombal Square in Lisbon.

Police officers were in patrol and have run into a man “to be absent in possession of one of the rails copper, which includes the statue of the Marquis of Pombal. “

Surprised by the police, the suspect did not resist. The man also had in his possession a handsaw intended for metal cutting, which was seized.

The detainee was taken to the Lisbon Metropolitan Command, which collected the provisional retention of cells and was presented today to the Court of Criminal Investigation of Lisbon, having been applied to coercion measure fortnightly presentations, also said the PSP.
