Funeral Mariano Gago takes place today in the Algarve – Daily News – Lisbon

The funeral of former Science Minister and Higher Education Mariano Gago, will take place today, in the cemetery of Pechão, Olhão, where will follow at 12:00, after the ceremonies in the Basilica da Estrela in Lisbon.

The information was released by the press office of the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST).

José Mariano Gago Rebelo died on Friday at his home in Lisbon, at age 66, victim of sudden death, after nearly two years of fighting cancer, told Lusa next scientist source.

Mariano Gago was Minister of Science and Technology 1995 to 2002, the thirteenth and fourteenth Governments Constitutional, led by António Guterres and Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education in the new governments of the Socialist Party – the XVII and XVIII Constitutional Governments, 2005-2011 – this time with José Sócrates as prime minister.

The particle physicist, Mariano Gago was the personality that longer held the position of minister, after 1974, a total of 12 years.
