The National Communications Authority (Anacom) said on Monday it has decided to impose the Meo reporting obligations on digital terrestrial television (DTT), since the telecom operator is responsible for managing the network.

“The operator responsible for the installation, management and maintenance of digital terrestrial television network will have to provide clearly visible in the ‘site’ www.tdt.telecom.pt information about where the type of coverage available has changed by satellite reception (DHT), since 2012, “the regulator led by Fátima Barros, in a statement.

” This measure is justified, since the people affected by these situations have the right to be compensated by Meo for the costs incurred or that will determine whether, in consequence of this change, “explains Anacom.

Access to DTT is free to the entire population, and the overwhelming majority by land and about 7.5% satellite (DHT).

“In addition to providing the ‘site’ of DTT a file with information structured by district / county / town / village, with the date where coverage changes were made, it was still determined to Meo to send the same information to all parishes in which some locality, or parts of sites, has been affected by the change of information about the type of coverage available, ” he added.

The aim is that all parish councils, which played an important role in the adoption of DTT, are authorized to provide information to people using digital terrestrial television.

Anacom also imposed to Meo that whenever you have to make changes to DTT network to ensure the terrestrial coverage levels of the population, this “must provide and update the ‘site’ of DTT information to the issuer’s statement ‘ best-server ‘[best server]. “

It is the telecommunications operator to take all the additional charges on the digital terrestrial television users may incur with the reorientation of receiving antennas , tuning the receiver DTT and / or replacement / amplifier tuning.

The regulator points out that people who need to buy a ‘ kit ‘ DHT to access the DTT service in areas with satellite coverage “can benefit from sharing that seeks to ensure the equalization of costs between those who are in an area with land cover and in an area with satellite coverage.”

The reimbursement is assured by Meo, resulting a decision of Anacom of April 7, 2011 and will be in force until 2023.
