Number of households with Internet access from home increased to 70% – LUSA

The number of Portuguese households with internet access at home rose to 70% in 2015, most broadband, but the pace of growth remained below the EU average, according to data released today by the INE.

According to the Survey on the Use of Information and Communication Technologies by Families 2015 published by the National Statistics Institute (INE), Internet access via broadband predominates among families with children (90%) and among those living in the Lisbon area (78%).

Registered results thus confirm, according to the INE, the growth trend in the number of families with Internet access at home (five percentage points compared to 2014), as well as broadband access, which in 2015 was 69% (six percentage points more than in 2014).

“However, taking into account the data of 2014 currently available to the EU, it appears that in Portugal continues to show a slower pace of growth in broadband access (up one percentage point ) than in the EU (two percentage points), “the INE.

The participation in social networks is more common in Portugal than the average of EU countries.

In 2015, 70% of Internet users in Portugal participating in social networks, still two percentage points less than in 2014 but 13 percentage points more than in 2011.

In 2014, the proportion of residents who used social networks was higher by 14 percentage points to the average of the European Union.

Also according to the survey INE, seven out of 10 people aged between 16 and 74 years connecting to the Internet and two make electronic orders.

Over the past five years, the use of e-commerce increased by 13 percentage points, from 10% in 2010 to 23% in 2015.

The use of computer and internet is more common for people up to age 44 for men and for those who completed secondary or higher education.

The INE also indicates that more and more Internet users using cloud computing services for storing files (31% compared to 24% recorded in 2014).

On the other hand, are already two-thirds of Internet users (66%) accessing the network mobility, mainly by mobile or ‘smartphone’.

More than half (54%) of those who used the Internet reported having limited their use due to safety concerns, mainly at the level of supply Personal information for social or professional networks (35%).
