For three years (2011-2014), many adjudicas works by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) have obeyed only two criteria: the beneficiaries or belonged to Freemasonry or an informal club of friend self-titled “The Drops”. This is the starting point of the accusation of the Central Department of Investigation and Penal Action (DCIAP) against João Correia, a former director of the Directorate-General of Infrastructure and Equipment (DGIE) and allocated him 32 counts of accepting bribes. Besides the director-general, also two former cadres of DGIE were accused, as well as nine businessmen.
According to the order of the attorney Ines Bonina for years, João Correia, with the collaboration of coarguidos Albino Rodrigues and Luísa Sá Gomes, awarded by direct adjustment, EUR 5.9 million in construction entrepreneurs of their personal relationships in violation of the “rules of public procurement, transparency and free competition”. With this action, the defendant will have damaged the State 909 000 euros.
