In addition to reducing the risk of stroke, this activity helps burn calories:. Climbing stairs for two minutes corresponding to an expense of enough calories to eliminate 500 grams of weight gained per adult in a year.
To underline the benefits that such a simple practice can bring, the Health Directorate-General has launched a campaign that reminds the Portuguese the advantages of climbing stairs rather than take the elevator.
The DGS emphasizes that the regular use of ladders also helps to improve cholesterol levels, reduce stress and anxiety, improve cardiovascular performance, reduce risk of osteoporosis and fractures, strengthening the skeletal system, increase breathing capacity, improve the pulmonary function and ultimately weight control.
