Musician, composer, arranger and one of the most important figures of Portuguese popular music, José Mário Branco was awarded the Prize Carlos Paredes in the 5th edition of the biennial festival Singing April, which had its closing session on 30. Absent in abroad, the musician sent a message which was read by fellow musician and friend António José Martins, who received the award on his behalf. In the message, José Mário Branco cautioned that it should not be seen any difference between the corner of resistance and the singing of freedom because the singer should always keep in mind that your work can be critical in any regime and against any power .
The session, held in Almadense Academy on the evening of Friday, April 30, included a live performance of the songs of the ten finalists and ended with a concert of Uxía Galician singer, who proved there in great vocal form. At the end of the concert, the winners remaining were announced after the vote of a jury composed of José Manuel David, Amélia Muge, João Afonso, Samuel and Andre Santos.
In the category of Best Original Song (Prize Jose Afonso), the winner was the bastard group, with the song Without Feathers . The best letter for a theme contest (Prize Ary dos Santos) was to Miguel Calhaz to I am against the below (he is bass).
