Monday, September 8, 2014 participates in Portuguese … – Good News

There are over nine thousand species that are cataloged in the new Biogeographic Atlas of the Southern Ocean, a work performed thanks to an unprecedented international collaboration, which enlisted the aid of a researcher at the University of Coimbra (UC).

José Xavier, UC, Portuguese was the only scientist to be part of the international team of marine biologists and oceanographers responsible for preparing the atlas, which is divided by 66 chapters.

According to a statement sent to the UC Good News, the new atlas gathers all known information about the oceanic species in an operation that involved the collaboration of 147 scientists from 91 institutions from 22 countries, among which is Portugal.

the first time since 1969, when the American Geographical Society published the Antarctic Map Folio Series, which is compiled all the information about ocean species.
