Government cuts exemption from IUC above 200 euros for people with disabilities – Observer

The Government decided to withdraw the exemption from car road tax (IUC) to people with a degree of disability greater than 60% when the tax payable exceeds 200 euros and only the part that exceeds EUR 200.

the news, advanced by the Journal News, says the change in the law which came into force in early August and implies that everyone who has a car with an IUC “above 200 euros are required to pay” the old seal, but only to the extent that it exceeds this value. That is, the owner of a car that has to pay IUC 250 euros, for example, has to pay only 50 euros at the time you have to do.

From the entry into force of new law (decree-law No. 41/2016) a car can only be free if you have a CO2 emission level equal to or less than 180g / km.

the Portuguese Association of Disabled proved against new rule, saying that most of the low or mid-range cars – that is, those who have such low emissions – does not have the requirements that allow driving to a person with reduced mobility. The Association also points out that, if a car has an engine capacity exceeding 1,750 cubic centimeters, there is an increase in IUC.
