Theatro Circo welcomes debate to be the ‘high point’ of the Science Month – Braga TV

The National Museum of Natural History and Science in Lisbon, was today, September 29, presentation of the stage ‘Month of Science’, an initiative developed by Fundação Francisco Manuel dos Santos (FFMS). The event will have its culmination in Braga, November 19, with the completion of the 5th National FFMS Meeting at Theatro Circo, under the motto ‘Science in Three Acts: Society, Prosperity and Politics’.


 

At the meeting will participate in several world-renowned experts in the field, that will look into the society of scientific knowledge. There are three panels of discussion which discussed the meaning of ‘scientific literacy’, the relationship between scientific research and social and economic prosperity and the relationship between research and public policy. After the closure of the debate panels, the stage of the century-old house shows gets the ‘Shadow Government’ program, at 19h00.


 

According to Ricardo Rio, Mayor of Braga, the choice of Braga as the host of this meeting is yet another recognition that ‘something else’ is going on in the city that deserves special attention from agents national and international.

 

“Braga is now home to research centers in very different areas, with the INL to establish itself as the main card Business in this matter, and is also a city where new generations may be aware that do not need go out to be scientists, since in the territory infrastructure, equipment and quality projects where they can develop their work, “he said, adding that, economically, Braga hosts several internationally recognized companies based on knowledge and in science its competitiveness factor.

 

The mayor also mentioned the joint efforts between the various players in the region as a factor that has marked the difference in the development of the city. “The link between research centers, universities, the economic structure and industrial and trade associations have done Braga a pole of attraction increasing investment,” he said, emphasizing that it is creating an ‘ecosystem’ that allows differentiating the appearance of projects.

 

The meeting is taking place in full National Week of Science and Technology, 2015, and, according to Nuno Grouper, president of the FFMS, one of the main reasons that led to the choice of Braga to host the event relates to the presence in the city’s University of Minho, one of the most dynamic and reputable academic institutions in the country.

 

According to Nuno grouper this will be a ‘rare opportunity to hear stimulating speakers, meeting for the first time in these subjects’. “The meeting continues the decentralization of policy that we have implemented and we are certain that in Braga will have a very positive response from civil society, the Academy, students and enthusiasts of science,” he said.


 

Throughout the month of November will take place other activities under the ‘Month of Science’. Coimbra receives, 11 November, the Conference ‘Mathematics Culture and Creation’. 23 November, in Lisbon, is expected to launch the study ‘Scientific Culture in Portugal: Tools for Understanding the World and Learning to Change it.’ Finally, November 24, at the Center of Life Science Coimbra, Pordata Exhibition Viva will be inaugurated.
