Show of lights: aurora borealis video shows then dawn on Earth seen from space
São Paulo – The European Space Agency (ESA, its acronym in English) released on Wednesday (30) an Video which shows a dazzling light show seen from Earth space .
The video, made during flights to the International Space Station (ISS, its acronym in English), shows the Aurora Borealis, lightning and dawn.
The time-lapse video (when video frames are captured between long intervals) was made from images taken by astronaut Alexander Gerst as it orbited the Earth in the ISS at about 400 km altitude in 2009.
The ISS travels at 28,800 km / h. This means that the ship takes 90 minutes to give the full back on the planet.
The video then shows the aurora dawn on Earth seen from space.
The images captured at night also show some rays in some regions of the globe.
The Aurora Borealis is caused by solar winds, which carry particles released in solar flares.
When they reach the Earth’s magnetic field, some of these particles are retained in the atmosphere, which causes intense brightness in the sky.
Solar storms happen because of eruptions on the surface of the star.
This type of phenomenon occurs by sudden changes in the magnetic field of the sun and emits a huge amount of energy in space.
While providing an incredible visual, the aurora borealis is a sign that solar storms reached Earth. This phenomenon does not pose great risks to humanity.
But the energy released by the Sun can interfere with satellites in telecommunication systems and electronic equipment on Earth.
