You have QuickTime on your PC? Uninstall it, recommends the US government – Daily News – Lisbon

recommendation comes directly from the US government, after Apple refused to fix two vulnerabilities video reading program

the Department of Homeland security of the United States recommended Friday to all Windows computer users who have installed the QuickTime program from Apple that remove their PC for security reasons.

at issue are two vulnerabilities that the computer security specialist firm Trend Micro found in popular video playback software, which can be exploited to launch computer attacks.

According to the US government department, Apple has no plans to update the software, since this is “end of life”. “The only way to mitigate the problem is to uninstall QuickTime for Windows,” according to the promptings of the Department of Homeland Security quoted by Reuters.

There are cases of known attacks that exploit these vulnerabilities, which are exclusive to the Windows version of the program, but they exist.

If you still use QuickTime to view some videos, you can always definitely change for VLC, a free program, developed in freeware, which decodes virtually all existing video formats.
