My Name Is Alice: a dramatic struggle against forgetting – Spreads Facts

It is with a touching but chilling story and excellent performance always fantastic Julianne Moore that My Name is Alice premiere today in Portugal .

The character that gives title to the film is a famous teacher of language that develops at an early age, Alzheimer’s disease. Alice will then have to learn to live with the disease, arranging ways to deal with family and redo your day-to-day with your problem.

More than a simple picture of the disease, My Name is Alice puts you in the skin of the protagonist, making us live close to and from your point of view all the obstacles Alzheimer puts you ahead. We could say that this happens because of the sensational interpretation of Julianne Moore , in what is one of his best performances (already smells like Oscar …), but there are many other factors that make this film a very interesting and engaging work.

The one that jumps the view is the way we are presented the disease. Not limited to the protagonist a woman who simply will forgetting people’s names, the duo of directors and screenwriters of the film Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland create from the bestseller namesake Lisa Genova , a very well-built character in a story full of drama and touching moments that show the difficulties imposed on Alice by the disease and how this affects the whole family.

The argument is undermined chilling dialog lines the spine, especially those where Alice you can not express in forget certain words or when, for seconds, does not recognize some people, including their children. Allied to the words of the characters are some strong images, not because they are explicit but the context in which we see, bringing some lines and situations at a very high level and thus emotional, because as the disease spreads more touching and delicate is becoming history.

There is also one time or another feel-good and candy comic-reliefs that help give rhythm My Name is Alice . what makes the story even having no climax or great and unforgettable key moments, never lose interest, there is always something to give it a new breath. And Glatzer and Westmoreland , through the academicism of their implementation, can still give a minimally unique touch to the work, as when transform photos of an old childhood photo album in filming fragments of Alice and his family, not to mention other good examples.

In addition to the aforementioned Julianne Moore , the cast is a good level and has excellent chemical important in scenes where parents and siblings quarrel with each other but also when they share more moments “cuddly”. Kristen Stewart , who stands out most, to prove that his years attached to the saga Twilight and other blockbusters hid a talent that can now be revealed. Not the best actress in the world, but is likely to gain a new respect in the world of cinema.

And in the end we were extremely aware of Alzheimer’s, to see how even the smartest women at an age not very advanced, can be a victim of the disease and how it will become increasingly weakened by it. My Name is Alice is therefore more than a good drama: it is a moving portrait of the daily life of a person and his family in the fight against loss of memory that alerts us to an increasingly common situation today
