Finally: Smartphone with Ubuntu arrived and will be on sale … – TeK.sapo

The project was announced in early 2013, but has undergone many postponements to see the light of day. Now, it seems that there is finally a date for the arrival of the first smartphone with Ubuntu operating system, something that will happen at the hands of HRC early as next week.

The BQ Aquarius E4.5 is the first device to hit the market with the Ubuntu operating system. Canonical, the entity responsible for developing the software, remains committed to create an ecosystem across multiple platforms and have a presence not only in computers but also on smartphones, tablets and even drones.

The software, best known for being open source and create a good alternative to Windows and Mac OS for computers, was expected since the end of 2013 and there was already a version of the platform to Android, but only now comes a smartphone exclusively to run a final version of the system.

With regard to equipment, the Aquarius E4.5 brings a screen with a resolution of 960×540 pixels, one MediaTek quad-cores 1,3Ghz, internal and expandable 8GB of storage using a card microSD. Inside there are two entries for micro-SIM cards and a five megapixel sensor.

As advances the statement sent to the press, an agreement was reached with Portugal Telecom, which has closely followed the development of Ubuntu Mobile, to be offered “phone and SIM card offers in the process of purchase users. ” The TeK tried to contact PT for further clarification, but still could not get any response.

The device of the Spanish manufacturer is only available in Europe and the information relating to the sale will be given on Tuesday, February 10, in the accounts of Ubuntu and BQ on social networks.

From now on, it is known that the smartphone will be available for online purchase only the HRC store for a limited time, through sales Flash & gt ;, with a price of around 169.9 euros.
