Large families applaud exemption from user fees – Digital Journal



The Portuguese Association of Large Families (APFN) welcomed today by extending the exemption from user fees in health for children from the age of 12, indicating representing “the end of an injustice.”

The Council of Ministers today approved the extension of user fees exemption in the National Health Service for children from 12 years and up to 18 years.

So far, were only exempt from paying taxes, health centers and public hospitals, children under 12 years.

In a short statement, APFN stresses that measure, adopted today, was “a constant claim” of the association with the Government and the Ombudsman, “by reaching with particular impact larger families.”

Speaking to Lusa, the president of APFN Luis Cabral, said that it is “a fair measure, at a time when families are in trouble,” adding that “no sense” that children as young as 12 years to pay user fees when “pediatric health is Free” .

The Government justified the extension of the exemption with the need to “ensure the elimination of any financial constraints on access of minors to health services provided by the National Health Service.”

The measure adopted today covers 400,000 children
