Helia Correia awarded Tale Prize Camilo Castelo … – Rossio Gazette

Organized by the partnership between the Municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão and the Portuguese Writers Association (EPA), the Great Story Prize gives 7,500 euros a work in Portuguese, a Portuguese author or a Portuguese-speaking African country.

The winner ad held in Vila Nova de Famalicão, in the House of Camilo, where the writer wrote some of his major works.

The Lisbon Helia Correia, 66, graduated in Romance Philology, was Portuguese teacher of Secondary Education, has also taken a course Graduate in Classical Theatre.

He debuted in poetry with the release of “The Dividing the Waters” in 1981 and “The Number of the Living” in 1982. Despite the taste for poetry, is in fiction that is recognized as one of the revelations of the Portuguese novelistic generating 80.

In his bibliography are several projects already awarded, such as “The Eternal House “(Literature Award Maximum 2000),” Lillias Fraser “(Fiction Prize of the Pen Club, 2001, and Prize D. Dinis, 2002),” bastardy “(Literature Award Maximum, 2006) and” Illness ” (Prize of Inês de Castro Foundation, 2010).

“Twenty steps and other tales”, the work now awarded, brings together eleven tales of Helia Correia, some of which have recognizable references, as in the case of “Seroda” which is another story of Mariana Cruz, of “Doomed Love”.

The Grand Prix of Camilo Castelo Branco Tale already distinguished several writers, namely Mário de Carvalho and Teresa Veiga, both for two Sometimes Maria Isabel Barreno, Maria Velho da Costa, Maria Judith de Carvalho, Miguel Miranda, Luísa Costa Gomes, José Jorge Letria and José Eduardo Agualusa.
