More women on the boards of companies – iOnline

The Commission for Equality at Work and Employment (CITE) yesterday launched the first national campaign to increase the presence of women on corporate boards of directors. It was up to me the satisfaction of having been invited to speak on the subject at the launch session. It was the time to remember that Portuguese women are more educated than men, although this investment will not be reflected in the occupancy of leadership and decision places. The chapter on gender equality and modernization of the country, the number of women on corporate boards is clearly one of the worst indicators.

In this case, I am referring in particular to the scarcity of women in top positions of listed companies (9%). In March, Secretary of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Equality, Teresa Morais, he said that the pace around here found only in Portugal in 2056 would approach a scenario equality on company boards. Therefore needs to be an effective commitment to promote a more balanced representation of women and men in business management.

With a team of which I am very proud and remarkable commitment of some companies, we do our part: we propose to create, enhance and disseminate good practices of self – regulation. We wish to contribute to socially responsible organizations, fairer and truly meritocratic. “It’s a matter of time”, tell us both out there … There are those who continue to wait for as long as build and inhabit “this time” do not fit all / nodes.
