ASAE donates 10 tons of meat to Lisbon Zoo – TVI24

The Lisbon Zoo received 10 tons of beef donated by the Food and Economic Safety Authority (ASAE), an amount that will allow feeding the animals for more than two months.

“The product donated by ASAE on Friday was moved last July 8th for delivery in a supermarket chain when, after road accident on the A1 motorway, there was a cold chain break,” said the ASAE in a statement.

After learning of the occurrence, the ASAE traveled to the crash site to perform a skill with a veterinarian and determined “there are no conditions for delivery of meat for human consumption”, so proceeded immediately to his arrest.

“Contacted the economic operator, various steps were taken to safeguard a destination for the seized product, given its high volume and economic value of it,” said the statement.

It was then decided, with the agreement of the economic operator and once the product is in a position to feed, which proceed to delivery to the Lisbon Zoo.

This is the largest donation of food received by the Lisbon Zoo.
