Last year, each family paid more on average in 1415 IRS euros than in 2012, according to a study by the CGTP and presented on Monday by the central trade union general secretary, Armenian Carlos.

An analysis of inequalities and the impoverishment, the CGTP concludes that between 2012 and 2014 the tax revenues on income on Individuals (IRS) increased by 42%, “removing families more than 3,400 million euros.” “Every household with income from work and pensions subject to IRS paid on average over 1415 euros in 2014 compared to 2012,” said the organization.

Another of the findings has to do with poverty, which “increased by 20% in just two years.” Between 2011 and 2013, “more than 455,000 Portuguese have fallen into poverty, of which 80,000 are children and youth under 18 years.”

In 2013, “one in four” Portuguese were poor (a total 2.7 million), counting among them “more than 576,000 children and young people.” The CGTP explains that “children and young people are victims of the measures that have increased unemployment and low wages among their parents and were also affected by the decline and cutting social transfers”.

“The Poverty intensity also increased in this period (from 24.1% to 30.3%), meaning that those who are poor now lives with fewer resources than in the past, contrary to the assertions of the Government, “said the inter-union.

The level of material deprivation also increased from 20.9% in 2011 to 25.7% in 2014, “and increasing the number of Portuguese who can not meet economic needs or purchasing durable goods “.

The CGTP also points out that between 2012 and 2014 workers on behalf of others had” an unpaid extra work that exceeds 3,800 million euros, only through halving the work of payment extraordinary in 2012 and cut in vacation days and holidays from 2013 “.

In this analysis is still given prominence to cuts in social benefits,” inseparable mark of this government is the withdrawal of family benefits to more than 116,000 children, the social insertion income to more than 126,000 families, the removal of the solidarity supplement to more than 36,000 elderly and the denial of unemployment benefits to more than half of the unemployed, “writes the CGTP.

In this situation, the inter-union, led by Armenian Carlos, demands an end on Budgetary Treaty and advocates a “value of labor” (higher wages, the national minimum wage, the total replacement of the management of public salaries, maintenance of 35 working hours), eliminating the IRS surcharge, creating more ranks in personal income tax, reduced VAT rate for goods and essential services, the introduction of taxes on capital, the extension of unemployment benefits and a wider range of social benefits (family allowance and RSI), among other measures.
