Union of Magistrates MP wants specialized prosecutors … – Digital Journal

The president of the Association of Prosecutors (SMPP) today defended the existence of prosecutors specialized in fighting corruption, stressing that, in practice, this is not the case.

Speaking at Figueira da Foz, at the opening session of the Conference on Corruption, António Ventinhas said to fight corruption in Portugal, including the most complex involving, among others, senior officials of the state or holders political office “it is imperative that attorneys specialize and capture the judges with more experience.”

“But in practice, this is not what happens”, he said.

The union leader claimed that those who want to dedicate “body and soul” combating corruption “can not be harmed” in career advancement, alluding to the “unfinished reform” of the prosecution and the cases of more experienced prosecutors from the Departments of Investigation and Penal Action which, he said, are leaving their seats in the criminal investigation “and to compete with other more attractive.”

“The system torpedoes the fight against corruption”, accused António Ventinhas.

President’s SMMP also said that whoever investigates “can not always be begging is allocated resources.”

The Conference on Corruption are promoted by SMMP, Trade Union Association of Portuguese Judges and Order District Coimbra Council of Lawyers and continue until Saturday at the Center for Arts and Spectacles of Figueira da Foz
