Unemployed will have active role in the protection of forests – Renaissance

The Ministries of Solidarity, Employment and Social Security, Agriculture and Marine and Internal Affairs signed a protocol of cooperation that aims to put, again, unemployed to watch and protect forests.

The protocol “Social Work by forests” aims to enhance and protect the forest, improve the employability levels and promote “the return to work of citizens who are unemployed market by socially necessary development work” , according to a note from the Government.

“The importance of the forestry sector to the environmental and social well-being and their interest to the national economy is all too obvious, making the forests a key feature of our country”, he says.

The Government maintains that forests “contribute to the prevention of soil erosion, collaborate for the regulation of climate and water resources, contribute to biodiversity, combat desertification, contribute to carbon sequestration and provide leisure and recreation “.

The risks weighing on the forest “require an emphasis on prevention of negative impacts, through the prevention, detection and surveillance” and interventions for prevention and recovery of areas affected by the fires, pests and diseases, says the same note.

In the phase Bravo – ending June 30 – succeeds Delta phase, which runs from 1 July to 30 September and is considered the most critical fire level

Between 1 January and 15 October 2014, forest fires originated 19,696 hectares of burnt area, 87% less than in the same period 2013, according to the National Authority for Civil Protection.
