Students entering higher education in the next academic year will have to wait at least until the end of the year if they wish to change degree. Until now, it was possible to make the transfer request in the same year placement, but the government decided to change this rule in the review of course change regulation, which was sent on Friday, for publication in the Official Gazette.

                     

                         The end of the ongoing changes in the year of placement in higher education was a change advocated by universities and polytechnics, which considered that possibility open in the previous version of the regulation caused a distortion in the national contest access. Until now, students could applying to a higher education course and through regime change, go to another degree, shortly after, getting on the same terms to complete the training that colleagues who entered the general system of access .

Contrary to what was once rumored in recent months, it remains possible that the changes courses to be made between the two subsystems of higher education. That is, a student placed in a course of a polytechnic can ask to change to another university and vice versa.

According to the new version of the Regulation, may change course students who have obtained the minimum grades required by the higher education institution to which they want to change in the national exams in secondary education, regardless of the academic year in which they have done. Vacancies for change continue to be set by higher education institutions.

This revision to the document has been discussed in recent months by the Ministry of Education and Science, Council of Rectors of Portuguese Universities, the Coordinating Council Higher Polytechnic Institutes, the Portuguese Association of Private Higher Education and student associations. Most changes only take effect in the academic year 2016/2017. However, some standards as now modified, of course, courses of changes impediment in the first year of placement and regarding the conditions that enable students to course changes, become longer valid in the next academic year.

Re-entry regulation and change of course and / or higher education institution was in effect since 2007. The new version of the document ends up with the concept of transference (to change the same course at another institution), it was well designated on the grounds that there was similarity of courses between institutions. The MEC said in a statement that this concept “has lost its reason for being particularly due to the difference today between courses with identical names as a result of scientific and pedagogic autonomy of higher education institutions.” Therefore, a single mode of mobility in the higher education system is created, the “change of par institution / course” which applies to change of course within the same institution or another institution or a change of institution for a similar course .
