Take advantage would be the fact of being alone at night to take care of the children to consummate the alleged sexual abuse. A monitor of the Santa Casa da Misericordia de Lisboa was arrested by the Judicial Police (PJ) on suspicion of sexual abuse of children under eight years, announced Thursday that police force. An official who was for eight years with minor in its custody was heard by an investigating judge, having been in custody.


                     


                         “The investigation found that the detainee exercised between 2004 and 2012, education helper functions and monitor an institution of social solidarity, which will presumably abused several children who were there in their care,” says the PJ in a statement.

The note explains that is not yet determined the number of victims of abuse, adding, however, that these are children under eight years that were “institutionalized awaiting a possible adoption or returning to their families. “According to the statement, the education auxiliary, 42, was already at present, to exercise functions other than those for which they had been employed for 11 years by the Holy House of Mercy.

“The alleged offender took advantage of the circumstance of being alone at night to take care of the children, to consummate the abuse,” reads the statement. The suspect was already subject to first interrogation, pending the development of inquériro in custody. Nevertheless, PJ ensures it will continue to investigate the case “in order to ascertain the extent of the criminal activity of the detainee.” In the note is guaranteed even if the institution of the Holy House is “will cooperate fully with the investigation of the facts.”

The home where the man paid service had responsibility for children without family or withdrawn neglectful parents. PUBLIC tried unsuccessfully to contact the Santa Casa provider, Pedro Santana Lopes. But the spokesman of the institution, Alexandre Guerra, says Mercy does not provide any information about the case, and referred to the statement issued by the Judiciary.
