Services distributed fiber optic and 4G networks arrive to the islands of ... - TeK.sapo

Portugal Telecom will provide telecommunications and entertainment based on distribution through fiber optics on the islands of Flores and Corvo. The inhabitants of these localities Azorean will have access to high speed internet fixed and mobile.

The provision of new services appears after PT has signed an agreement with Fibroglobal, the company that owns the submarine cable connecting the islands of Flores and Corvo and is connected to the subsea infrastructure telecommunications Azores.

Access to fiber optic networks and 3G and 4G networks allow a number of new investments and developments being made in areas such as health – telemedicine – and ensimo – e-learning and distance learning.

Investment may also represent a return in terms of revenue for PT since services like Meo Fibre will also be available in two islands.

In a statement PT said to have invested around 52 million euros in the Azores in the last four years. In addition to the agreement reached with the Portuguese operator Fibroglobal also reveals a number of other agreements established in the island territory that cements investment in the Azores.
