Apple hires CEO of Burberry clothing brand to manage stores - Público.pt

Angela Ahrendts, CEO of Burberry, a British brand of luxury clothing, will become part of Apple’s executive team, with responsibility for physical and online stores.

Ahrendts, an American aged 53, was in Burberry since 2006 and last year topped the list of highest-paid executives in the UK. Like other top executives from Apple (with the exception of the CEO, Tim Cook) will take over as senior vice president.

“will oversee the strategic direction, expansion and operation of the physical Apple stores and online,” said the multinational in a statement.

chain stores that Ahrendts will now manage were created 12 years ago and have become an important part of the sales strategy. In several countries, the stores are located in commercial spaces, but the company also created independent stores in some big cities, some of which have become known for architectural features.

In Portugal, although there are shops entirely devoted to Apple products, these are operated by partners and not by the very multinational. In Europe, there are stores in Spain, UK, Sweden, Switzerland, Netherlands, Italy, Germany and France.

This is the second time that Apple will seek an executive to the fashion industry. In July, the company had hired the then CEO of French Yves Saint Laurent, Paul Deneve, to work on “special projects” which were not specified.

two signings come at a time that intensifies speculation about Apple’s plans to launch a smartwatch , a watch with some smartphone features . Samsung launched in September a watch these, the Galaxy Gear.
