Washington – Thanks to a new method of detecting lung cancer, published in “Journal Of Medicine Science», no longer necessary to perform biopsies for this purpose.

According to the conclusion of a study by a group of American researchers to 143 people with different stages of disease, it is possible to detect lung cancer using blood samples from patients.

The research focused on the detection of 13 proteins in the blood, resulting in a 90% success rate in the diagnosis of benign and malignant tumors.

Through this discovery will no longer be necessary to resort to surgical procedures such as biopsy, an invasive process that aims to collect tissue or cells for subsequent laboratory analysis.

The study was conducted by scientists from the School of Medicine, New York University, School of Medicine Perelman, the Vanderbilt University Medical Center, the Langone Medical Center and the University of Pennsylvania.

According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), are registered annually about 1.3 million fatalities due to the disease. In Portugal die about three thousand people a year with lung cancer.
