The two autumns. One is tomorrow, the other is on Saturday – Daily News – Lisbon

Autumn starts at 09:20 on Wednesday, but the day long just like the night, marking the equinoxes, only takes place on Saturday, as on Wednesday there will be eight more minutes of sun.

The situation can not be explained by summer temperatures or even by day of intense sun of the Sea Portuguese Institute and Atmospheric scheduled for the first day of fall. According to the Astronomical Observatory of Lisbon this is due, rather, to the apparent diameter of the sun and atmospheric refraction.

The Observatory begins by explaining, in its website that the equinoxes are defined as the moment when the sun from the center point passes the equator and therefore the solar center rises in the cardinal point East and sets exactly in the west, “lying for 12 hours over the mathematical horizon anywhere on Earth these days” .

However, and even though the equinox word may mean night like the day in such “does not result in a length of the solar day of 12 hours.”

Due to physical conditions and the translational movement of land only on day 26 there will be 12 hours light. The Observatory states that, on that day, the sun rises at 7:28 and sets up to 19:28 and for the 12 hours right there is only a 10-second shift.
